Lone Oak is a 244-unit apartment community on 13 acres in southeast Salem, half a mile from Creekside Golf Club. The neighborhood is one of the city’s highest-income areas, but new rental housing there is scarce. Many of the young professionals and working families who want to live nearby can’t get into a single-family home at today’s prices. Lone Oak gives them studio through three-bedroom apartment homes in three-story garden buildings, with parking, amities, and a private park on site.
A neighborhood market sits at the front of the property. It gives residents and neighbors a place to pick up groceries without driving, and it helps the project fit into the residential area around it. Salem has a deep public-sector job base, and its population is projected to grow by nearly 60,000 by 2035. Lone Oak adds housing where that growth is heading. Ethos is developing the project with Willamette Roots, a Salem firm that has built across the West since 2008.
